Foundry

How this actually ships.

A working plan for the printed rings you already wear, a Denver ad test, and the provisional that needs to go in before the next public push. This is operator material, not a pitch deck.

  1. Phase 0

    File the provisional

    This week

Patent pending before any real sales push. You have already worn prototypes — the US 1-year grace clock may already be running.

    • Finish the specification in Patent Studio (add a dimensioned cross-section if you can).
    • Export / print the spec + figures to PDF.
    • Create a MyUSPTO account and open Patent Center.
    • File PTO/SB/16 cover sheet + spec + drawings. Pay the micro-entity fee ($65) with SB/15A if you qualify.
    • Save the filing receipt. You may now say Patent Pending.
  2. Phase 1

    Make the first 40

    Days 1–14

A box of Starter rings you are proud to mail. No cartridge tooling yet.

    • Lock one PETG print profile (see Foundry → Print).
    • Print 10 testers, wear them, fix sharp edges and sizing.
    • Print 30 sellable, wrap 600-grit, pack in a small kraft box with a spare strip.
    • Photograph on your own hand in daylight. You do not need a studio.
    • Open a simple fulfillment sheet: size, finish, address, shipped date.
  3. Phase 2

    Denver pocket test

    Days 10–40

Prove someone who is not you will pay $29, and learn the size mix.

    • Run $15–25/day Meta ads geo-fenced to Denver + Boulder + Fort Collins.
    • Creative: you, on camera, spinning the ring and filing one nail. Fifteen seconds. No logo animation.
    • Landing page is this site’s waitlist / shop. Collect size and email even if they do not pay yet.
    • Offer local pickup in Highland / LoHi as a cheap alternative to shipping.
    • Kill any ad that does not get a waitlist or checkout after ~$40 spend. Double the one that does.
  4. Phase 3

    Signature + cartridges

    Days 30–80

The version in the patent. Outer window band, replaceable grit.

    • Print the snap-fit pair until the outer spins freely and does not pop off.
    • Cut grit and slogan wraps as a 3-pack SKU.
    • Sell Signature at $72 only after five people have worn a pair for a week.
    • Start a simple subscribe-and-save for grit packs.
  5. Phase 4

    Decide on metal

    After $8–10k revenue

Do not tool gold until the habit story is proven.

    • If Starter conversion is healthy, commission a jeweler or caster for a 10-piece metal pilot.
    • Price $180–280. Same window geometry so cartridges still fit.
    • File the non-provisional before the 12-month deadline, with formal drawings and a registered practitioner if the numbers justify it.
